Amy Thomson

Birth and Postpartum Doula

Becoming a parent is an exciting and often scary process.  Even while most look forward to the birth of their babies with great anticipation and joy, all of the planning, shopping, family stresses, and anxiety about the birth can be overwhelming.  It is often difficult to navigate all of the conflicting information out there meant to support new parents and help them make important decisions about their new baby.  Often, extended family lives far away, or is unavailable during this important time.

All families need nurturing support through pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period.  In many cultures, whole communities come together to nurture new parents and their babies for many weeks before, during, and after childbirth.  As a birth and postpartum doula, Amy takes great pleasure in taking on this role.  She respects that each family’s ideal birth and postpartum experience is unique and that there is no one right way for everyone.  She feels that her role as a doula is to contribute without interference, offer support, guidance, and information, and to create a space for each family to find their own way on their journey into parenthood.

Amy completed both the Birth and Postpartum Doula training at the Seattle Midwifery School.  Amy has extensive experience working with preemies, singletons, and multiples.  She is certified in Infant and Child CPR and First Aid and is committed to ongoing education in maternity and postpartum care.  She lives in Seattle, WA with her beautiful daughter.
